Welcome to a Conversation with History. I'm Harry Kreisler of the Institute of International Studies. Our guest today is Joseph S. Nye, Jr., Dean of the John F. Kennedy School of Government and Don K. Price Professor of Government, Harvard University. Professor Nye was Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs from 1994 to 1995; Chairman of the National Intelligence Council from 1993 to 1994; and Deputy Undersecretary of State for Security Assistance, Science and Technology Department of State, 1977 to 1979. He's the author of numerous books and articles, including Understanding International Conflict: An Introduction to Theory and History; Bound to Lead: The Changing Nature of American Power; Power and Interdependence: World Politics in Transition.
